There's a lot that goes into high school sports traditions beside the actual sports themselves. You've got cheer, rallies, homecomings, and let's not forget one of our most important senses...sound. That's provided by the high school band and almost every human tradition has music interwoven for a reason...it speaks to us.

So your child wants to be in the band? Or maybe you're just a regular person who wants to pick up a new hobby? Well, either way hopefully this advice will be of some help to you. First of all let me start by saying I have played Brass instruments in middle, high school and in college. I started with Trumpet and then later on moved to the Baritone and Trombone.
The trumpet is known for its strong brassy sound. Although there are three different valves on a trumpet, much of its sound is attributed to lip tension. Playing the trumpet correctly does require strong, well-disciplined lips. Lip vibrations can seem very complicated at first, but once mastered, they do become second nature.
